Trollstigen

Trollstigen translates to Troll's Path. I guess of all the switch-backed roads we'd seen on this trip, this was the most impressive, in scale and audacity. It competes with the waterfalls for very limited space at the steep head of the valley.

This road is also designated as one of Norway's Tourist Routes and in 2012, there were significant updates to the road, the viewpoints were turned into artworks, and a visitor center and cafe were built on top.

I had seen pictures so I sort of knew a little of what to expect, but neither those pictures, nor these, really capture the exposure and the drama of this place.
