Dalsnibba

A winding paved road leads up to the top of Dalsnibba, from which you can look down almost 1500m (4800') to Geiranger. From this high, even the big cruise boats seem awfully small.

The road itself is pretty neat. The view is great. But once again, the viewpoint itself is what really stands out. One gets the sense that the entire parking area is cantilevered out over the edge, although really, just part of the walkway is suspended. They had to level and pave the mountaintop to create this, but the result is not only amazing, but it can handle the busloads of tourists who are shuttled up all day long from the tour boats down in the fjord.

Every June, there's a bike race from Geiranger up to the top of Dalsnibba. The fastest times for the 13-mile climb are just over an hour. It probably took us almost half that to drive back down to sea level.
