Stegastein

Another of Norway's fantastic roadside viewpoints, Stegastein juts out from the mountainside more than 2000' above Aurlandsfjorden, at the top of another series of narrow switchbacks. The timber and steel structure extends out over the edge, then rolls over. A panel of glass is all that keeps one from sliding over the end.

We wondered as we climbed the steep curves whether we would completely disappear into the clouds before we arrived. Not quite, but we were right in the clouds and a light drizzle. It wasn't ideal, but still a really neat piece of architecture that really highlights the natural setting.

Stegastein is at the western end of the Aurlandsfjellet - which I'll post some photos of next.
