Gaularfjellet is another of Norway's tourist routes. We followed the valley (the Gaula and Sæta Rivers, I think) up from Sande, past lakes and waterfalls, some visible from the road, some requiring short side hikes, and some beyond the scope of our schedule.
We stopped at Eiklandsfossen, a short walk downhill from the road, and Likholefossen, which was crossed by an elegant stainless steel footbridge. As the pictures show, it was a pretty gray day, particularly as we climbed above treeline (which occurs below 2000' in this part of the world), but the rain itself largely held off.
After a long, fairly gradual climb from the west, one reaches the summit, then plunges (switchbacks, of course) back down to the Sognefjord. The overlook at the pass, Utsikten, is an amazing three-petaled concrete platform stuck out over the edge.
